Object Match Transition

Watch as an animation →

In plain words

Frame the same object in the same position and size in two cuts, and cut between them. The object stays the same while only the background changes, so it looks as if the object carries you across places or time.

When to use it

Ads where the same cup, bag or product travels through several places. Place changes in a travel vlog. Showing an object that is still there after time has passed. If you swap in a different object that only looks similar, it becomes a graphic match cut.

In AI video, like this

Put the last frame of cut A in as a reference image and make B's start frame with "same object, same position and size, new background". If the object moves, match the direction of movement at A's end and B's start. An object's color and shape tend to drift from cut to cut, so put the object reference image into both cuts. In the edit, hard cut at the frame where the object lands in the same spot, and if it is off, use crop and scale to match position and size.
